EXTREME VICUÑA® : A new height of luxury

Since 1842, Dormeuil has travelled the world in search of the finest and most precious fibres, constantly pushing the boundaries of luxury cloth.

Among them, vicuña holds a unique place. Long surrounded by mystery, this extraordinary fibre has been considered sacred since the time of the Incas, when it could only be worn by royalty.

With Extreme Vicuña®, Dormeuil gives this legendary fibre a new expression through one of the most exceptional collections ever created by Dormeuil.

One of the rarest fibres in the world

Living high in the Andes of Peru and Argentina, at altitudes between 4,000 and 6,000 metres, the vicuña has adapted to one of the most demanding environments on earth.

Its fleece is shorn only once every two years, producing around 250 grams of fibre per animal. Approximately thirty vicuñas are required for a single suit.

At only 12 microns, the fibre is finer than cashmere and around six times finer than human hair. Light, delicate and exceptionally soft, it is among the rarest natural fibres in the world.

For Extreme Vicuña®, Dormeuil has also selected exceptionally rare pale vicuña from Argentina, opening the way to unusually light natural shades while preserving the remarkable softness of the fibre.

A remarkable technical achievement

Transforming such a delicate fibre into a true suiting cloth requires absolute precision.

Extreme Vicuña® is woven from an ultra-fine 2/100 worsted yarn, demanding exceptional control throughout every stage of production in order to preserve both the strength and the natural beauty of the fibre.

Each detail is refined by hand and by eye, drawing on generations of Dormeuil textile expertise.

The result is a cloth of remarkable fluidity, softness and elegance. Dormeuil’s exclusive finish adds a subtle lustre while respecting the natural character of the vicuña.

From suiting to jacketing

Extreme Vicuña® has been developed for both suits and jackets.

Alongside its refined worsted suiting qualities, the collection includes a distinctive hopsack jacketing, bringing a more contemporary expression to this extraordinary fibre.

Its natural lightness and fluid drape give tailors the freedom to create garments that feel as exceptional as they look.

A colour palette rarely seen in vicuña

The collection also challenges the traditional image of vicuña.

Alongside elegant natural beiges inspired by the pale Argentine fibre, the palette includes timeless navy and black, enriched by deep green and burgundy.

These colours reveal another dimension of vicuña, one that combines the rarity of the fibre with a more contemporary expression.

The story behind Extreme Vicuña®

To mark the launch of the collection, Dormeuil has created a film tracing the journey of this exceptional fibre.

From the vast landscapes of the Andes to the precision of weaving and finishing, the film reveals the contrast at the heart of Extreme Vicuña®: a fibre born in extreme conditions, transformed through 184 years of savoir-faire into a cloth of exceptional refinement.
